ICT Acceptable Use Agreement Guidelines

Information and Communication Technology (ICT) capabilities are taught across all learning areas to ensure students are equipped with the necessary skills and understanding to use digital technology as an effect tool to enhance learning and prepare them for the technologically sophisticated work force.

As a school we aim to teach students how to use electronic devices safely, respectfully and responsibly. These resources are shared and need to be care for so that all students have reliable access to these devices. It is also critical that applying social and ethical protocols and practices are taught to ensure students remain safe in an online environment.

The Internet is an exciting and powerful tool for students to research information for both academic assignments and their own personal interests. In addition to this, students have the opportunity to collaborate and communicate with their peers across and beyond the school.

As part of our curriculum, pupils have controlled access to the Internet and learn how to use libraries, databases and information sources on a wide variety of topics. We recognise that some inappropriate material on the Internet may be accessed intentionally or by accident, even though the school has Internet filtering in place. We teach students the importance of responsible use of the web and email, as well as providing basic rules to maintain the privacy of students. At all times, pupils must agree to follow the ICT Acceptable Use Agreement attached to this letter.

To give your son/daughter permission to use and contribute to the Internet and respectfully and responsibly care for electronic devices, please read and discuss the ICT Acceptable Use Agreement and return the attached form to the class teacher. The Internet will be available to all students during normal teaching activities and during teacher directed activities.

Our school reserves the right to amend the basic rules, ICT Acceptable Use Agreement and guidelines as required. Any modification to the ICT Acceptable Use Agreement will be publicised in the school’s newsletters.

The ICT Acceptable Use Agreement attached applies at all times, in and out of school hours, whilst using school equipment. Students need to be aware that inappropriate use can be tracked at any given time.

Internet and email access will be provided to students if they have returned the signed (parent and student) ICT Acceptable Use Agreement form.

This policy is intended as a general outline of our school’s approach. It is not intended to be an authoritative guide to every aspect of digital technology usage. This document will be supplemented by procedural guidelines as required.
