Upper Primary: Yr 5 - 6 | Room 5
I believe children learn best when they are actively engaged, interested and supported in their learning experiences so I incorporate collaborative strategies and critical and creative thinking skills wherever possible throughout the school day. We begin most days with at least 20 minutes of Physical Fitness as I find this helps ‘wake up’ students’ brains and muscles, assists coordination and strengthening of the link between the two sides of the brain and also assists in the development of team-work, listening skills, resiliency and focus.
In Term 1 the children worked collaboratively in small groups to design a new Australian product. They then constructed a model of the product, created a Fact Sheet to describe its function and presented an advertisement to the class to market it. The new inventions included a Smart Eski, Head Cooler, Rentable Tree Umbrella and a new type of Fly Trap. This term in Technologies we are participating in the Dream Project so the students are using a coding application on the iPads to create an animation that demonstrates the steps required to play a game of their choice.
