Curriculum

Curriculum

At Burrendah Primary School we are committed to providing each child with a well-rounded, quality education to ensure they are equipped to reach their full potential. This is achieved through the careful planning, development and delivery of quality and engaging learning opportunities. Our programs are supported by close partnerships between home and school and we view these links as fundamental in the provision of a positive and successful learning environment.

Our priority learning areas of literacy, numeracy and science are aligned with the Australian Curriculum and provide the foundation for students’ future learning and growth. The allocation of two hour literacy and numeracy blocks ensure that teachers are equipped to maximise student outcomes in these areas. Students engage in the science learning area with a specialist teacher in a purpose built science laboratory.

History and Geography are also taught using the Australian Curriculum and are often integrated within the priority learning areas to provide enriched and engaging experiences. Other learning opportunities within the other curriculum areas are planned in accordance with the Curriculum Framework. Physical education, music, Italian (Years 5-7) and art (Years 1-4) are all taught by dedicated specialist teachers to ensure students are rewarded with comprehensive and quality teaching and learning.

Our commitment to the Australian Curriculum has seen our staff undertake professional development to assure our preparedness for the full implementation of Phase One. Our dedication to quality teaching will ensure that this continues as further learning areas are endorsed by the Australian Curriculum, Assessment and Reporting Authority (ACARA). Information on the Curriculum is available on the ACARA website and can be accessed here.
